The multi-hyphenate has made more than a dozen appearances at fashion’s biggest night ahead of her co-chair gig this year
Jenny from the Block is headed back to the Met!
While Jennifer Lopez is no stranger to fashion’s biggest night — making her first appearance way back in 1999 — this year will be different for the star, as she is one of the event’s four co-chairs.
Joining the likes of Zendaya, Bad Bunny and Chris Hemsworth, Lopez will be on hand to lead the stream of A-list guests for the event, which this year comes with a dress code of “The Garden of Time” for the Costume Institute’s spring exhibition, “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion.”
Ahead of this year’s big event on May 6, take a look back on two decades of J.Lo’s Met Gala looks.
2004
After walking the Met Gala steps with Sean “Diddy” Combs in 1999, Jennifer Lopez made her solo carpet debut in 2004 in Dolce & Gabbana alongside Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana for the year’s theme of “Dangerous Liaisons: Fashion and Furniture in the 18th Century.”
2006
Two years later, Jenny from the Block was back and this time in a one-shoulder gown by Versace for the soirée themed “AngloMania: Tradition and Transgression in British Fashion.”
2007
In 2007, Jennifer Lopez wore a metallic Marchesa ensemble and her hair styled into an Old Hollywood-inspired ‘do for the night titled: “Poiret: King Of Fashion.”
2008
Jennifer Lopez went for the asymmetrical look once again in 2008 with this blue Alberta Ferretti dress. The year’s theme was “Superheroes: Fashion and Fantasy.”
2010
For 2010’s “American Woman: Fashioning a National Identity,” the “On the Floor” singer wore a sparkling strapless Zuhair Murad dress featuring a tulle skirt covered in sequined pieces that certainly reflected the flashbulb lights.
2011
Jennifer Lopez went for a pink and feminine Gucci gown for her 2011 choice for the night honoring “Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty.”
2013
In 2013, Jennifer Lopez styled her hair high on her head to go along with her sequined Michael Kors gown for “PUNK: Chaos to Couture.”
2015
When it was time to pay homage to “China: Through The Looking Glass” in 2015, Jennifer Lopez wore a sheer Versace dress that featured the image of a red dragon.
2017
Jennifer Lopez was goddess-like in this blue flowing gown by Valentino for 2017’s “Rei Kawakubo/Comme des Garcons: Art Of The In-Between.”
2018
In 2018, Jennifer Lopez was on theme in this dramatic Balmain gown complete with a bedazzled cross for “Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination.”
2019
J.Lo showed off her dress’ high slit as she posed on the 2019 pink carpet surrounded by matching florals. For the event, themed “Camp: Notes On Fashion,” Lopez was dripping in dazzling strands and accessorized with equally sparkly jewelry — including a headpiece.
2021
Jennifer Lopez tipped her hat to Western influences with her Ralph Lauren ensemble in 2021 that was complete with a couture bustier, crystal embroidery and braided leather trim. Lopez topped off the look — which was chosen for “In America: A Lexicon Of Fashion,” with a wide-brimmed hat.
2023
And the star was back in Ralph Lauren for last year’s big event in this ab-baring pink and black gown, which she accessorized with a leather beret trimmed with fishnet material. She told La La Anthony at the event, which honored the late Karl Lagerfeld, that while at first she “wasn’t sure about the hat,” she had come around to it: “But now I’m kinda feeling it.”
